[JLPT grammar] Do not use と to connect i-adjectives
Today, I am going to share the homework correction from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
このレストランはおいしいと安いです。
*このれすとらんはおいしいとやすいです。

[My correction]
このレストランはおいしいと安いです。
→このレストランはおいしくて安いです。
This restaurant is delicious and inexpensive.
When you put two words together, if the word you want to connect is a noun, you can use の. But since おいしい is an i-adjective, you cannot use の.
When you connect i-adjectives, you have to use the te-form, so おいしい becomes おいしくて.
How to make the te-form of an i-adjective;
i-adjective (remove い) + くて
おいし|い dictionary form
おいし|くて te-form
e.g.
母(はは)はやさしくて、明(あか)るいです。
My mother is kind and cheerful.
東京(とうきょう)は人(ひと)が多(おお)くて、
Tokyo is crowded and lively.
兄(あに)は背(せ)が高(たか)くて、声(こえ)も大(おお)
My elder brother is tall and has a loud voice.
I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
In the JLPT course, all lessons come with homework. If you submit your homework, I will reply with corrections.
I can break down the Japanese grammar and point out mistakes, explaining the structure and nuances of Japanese in an easy-to-understand way.
You can also ask me any questions in as much detail as you want. I will teach you until you get it!
