Today, I’m sharing a homework correction from my JLPT Course. This one’s for beginners! Can you spot the mistake in the student’s sentence?

 

[Student’s sentence]

 

このバスを乗って、京都駅まで行きます。

*このバスをのって、きょうとえきまでいきます。
kono basu o notte, Kyouto eki made ikimasu.

[My correction]

 

このバスを乗って、京都駅まで行きます。
→ このバスに乗って、京都駅まで行きます。​

kono basu ni notte, Kyouto eki made ikimasu.

I will take this bus to Kyoto Station.

 

 

〜に乗る (ni noru): The correct particle here is に. This particle is used to indicate what you are getting on or entering, such as a bus, taxi, airplane, train, or boat.

You always use 〜に乗る when talking about boarding these forms of transportation.

 

 

For example:

電車に乗る (Densha ni noru)

Board the train

 

タクシーに乗る (Takushii ni noru)

Get in the taxi

 

船に乗る (Fune ni noru)

Get on the boat

 

飛行機に乗る (Hikouki ni noru)

Board the plane

 

自転車に乗る (Jitensha ni noru)

Ride the bicycle
