私がこの国の首相(2 だったとしたら)、もっと若者のために税金を使うのに。

If I were the prime minister of this country, I would spend more tax money on young people.

 

 

〜だったとしたら means “if ~ were true, even though it isn’t.”

It is used to express a hypothetical situation that is not real but is imagined.

 

In this sentence, the speaker is not actually the prime minister, but they are saying “If I were the prime minister…” That’s why だったとしたら is the best choice.

(だった)からには

“since (this is the case), one must be prepared to…”

→Expresses determination after stating a fact

 

にしたら

“from the perspective of ~, it would be…”

→Expresses something from another person’s perspective

 

にしては

“considering ~, it is different from what is expected.”

→Used when something differs from expectations
