I am studying the grammar form of …という.. and i came across the following sentence.
マリアさんがいないときに、
For the above sentence, can ask for your help to explain the grammar usage of という？
[My Reply]
At first, your sentence,
マリアさんがいないときに、
is incorrect.
Correct sentence
→マリアさんがいないときに、荷物を届けに来た「
I heard that (he/she) came to deliver a package when Maria-san was not there.
Don’t think of it as a sentence using 〜という.
This is grammar 「〜ということだ」.
〜ということだ: (I) hear that
It is used that the speaker heard some information.
Information:
「マリアさんがいないときに、荷物を届けに来た」
(he/she) came to deliver a package when Maria-san was not there
