[JLPT grammar] Don’t say “天気がさむいです”

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

[My correction]

It’s cold today, so I’m staying home.

暑い(あつい hot), 暖かい(あたたかい warm), 寒い(さむい cold), 涼しい(すずしい cool)  are words that express temperature.
They don’t indicate weather, so they are not used with 天気(てんき).

天気 indicates a sky condition, like はれ(sunny), くもり(cloudy), 雨(あめ rain), 雪(ゆき snow).
If the weather is good, we say 天気がいい; if the weather is bad, we say 天気が悪(わる)い.

When we use the “temperature word”, we are referring to something specific.
e.g.
It is cold today.

Summer in Tokyo is hot.

It was cool inside the convenience store.

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
