[JLPT grammar] there is no need to use the polite style before ので.

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

[My correction]

I cannot eat that curry because it is very spicy.

Your statement is not wrong, but ので already conveys a polite tone, so making the word in front of ので polite-style(辛いです in this case)sounds excessively formal. It is more natural to use a plain style(辛い in this case)before ので.

I’m going home because the class is over.

終わった: plain style of past tense
終わりました: polite style of past tense

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
