[JLPT grammar] na-adjective’s past tense of polite style is 〜でした.

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

昨日の花火は、きれいだったです。

*きのうのはなびは、きれいだったです。

[My correction]

昨日の花火は、きれいだったです。
→昨日の花火は、きれいでした
Yesterday’s fireworks were beautiful.

きれい is a na-adjecitve, and na-adjective’s past tense of polite style is 〜でした.

na-adjective, polite style
きれい|です non-past
きれい|じゃありません non-past, negative
きれい|でした past
きれい|じゃありませんでした past, negative

e.g.
あの店(みせ)の店員(てんいん)は親切(しんせつ)でした
The staff at that store was kind/nice.
親切; na-adjective

昔(むかし)は野菜(やさい)が嫌(きら)いでしたが、今(いま)は好(す)きです。
I used to not like vegetables, but now I like them.
嫌い; na-adjective

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
