[JLPT grammar] 〜がする is used that you are not certain of something but feel it to be true.
Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N3 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
このチョコレートはあまい味がする。
*このちょこれーとはあまいあじがする。

このチョコレートはあまい味がする。
→このチョコレートはあまい。
This chocolate is sweet.
〜がする is not used for something that can be determined immediately after seeing it or for direct determinations such as something being delicious or sweet.
◎このカレーはからい。
(× このカレーはからい味がする。)
This curry is spicy.
◎このカレーはおいしい。
(× このカレーはおいしい味がする。)
This curry is delicious.
◎となりの家(いえ)からカレーのにおいがする。
I smell curry from the house next door.
