[JLPT grammar] Don’t use 通じて for transportation

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

新幹線を通じて東京に行きます。

*しんかんせんをつうじてとうきょうにいきます。

[My correction]

新幹線を通じて東京に行きます。
→ 新幹線東京に行きます。
I will go to Tokyo by Shinkansen(bullet train).

〜を通じて is used as a grammar point indicating means, but not for transportation. This is because it functions more as an intermediary or mediator rather than just a means to an end.

e.g.
ねぼうしたので、タクシー来(き)ました。
I came here by taxi because I overslept.

私の車(くるま)行きましょう。
Let’s go in my car.

友人(ゆうじん)を通じて、彼(かれ)と知(し)り合(あ)いました。
I met him through a friend.

アルバイトを通じて、接客(せっきゃく)の日本語(にほんご)を学(まな)びました。
I learned Japanese for customer service through my part-time job.

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊

The above correction is just a taste of what my JLPT all-in-one course has to offer (today’s is from the N3).
