Today, I am going to share a homework correction from my JLPT Course! The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

[My correction]

The bank is already closed.

The 〜ている form can be used to indicate the status of a result. In this case, the verb 閉まる (to close) in its 〜ている form shows that the bank is in a state of being closed.

The 〜ている form can be used to indicate both ongoing actions and the status of a result.

・閉まりました (the moment the action was completed)
閉まっています (resulting state: “is already closed”)

Examples of 〜ている to indicate resulting states:

窓(まど)が開(あ)いています
The window is open.

The light is on.

The light is off.

I hope my explanation helps you.😊
