Today, I’m sharing a homework correction from my JLPT Course. This one’s for beginners! Can you spot the mistake in the student’s sentence?

 

[Student’s sentence]

 

（公園で友達と会って）

今から、私の家に行く？

 

*（こうえんでともだちとあって）

いまから、わたしのいえにいく？

(kouen de tomodachi to atte)

ima kara, watashi no ie ni iku?

[My correction]

 

今から、私の家に行く？

→ 今から、私の家に来る？

ima kara, watashi no ie ni kuru?

 

(At the park with a friend​)

Do you want to come to my house now?

 

 

行く vs 来る

When inviting someone to “my house”, you should use 来る (kuru) instead of 行く (iku), even if you are not currently at home.

This is because “my house” is considered your personal space, so you invite others to “来る” to it, not “行く” to it.
