Yamada-san was hired by this company as an engineer.
〜として is used to indicate someone’s position or role.
noun + として ＝ “as (a role or position)”
In this sentence, 山田さん was hired as an engineer. So, we use として.
Other Choices:
〜といって
Used to explain a meaning, but it doesn’t fit here.
〜だと
Usually used in conditional expressions（〜と）, so it’s not appropriate here.
〜だとして
When using として, you cannot add だ after a noun.
