President: “Everyone, it’s a tough time now, but let’s all work hard for the company.”

Employees: “Yes, we will!”​

 

 

〜ようではありませんか is a formal way to suggest doing something together.

It means “Let’s do ~!” or “Shall we do ~?”

 

Verb:Volitional-form + ではありませんか

がんばる dictionary-form

がんばろう volitional-form

がんばろう + ではありませんか

“Let’s all work hard!”

 

In this dialogue, the president is encouraging everyone to work hard together.
The natural response from the employees, 「はい、がんばります。」(Yes, we will!), confirms that this is a motivational call rather than a question or statement.

 

 

Other Choices:

 

がんばるのではないですか
“Shouldn’t you work hard?”

It would be unnatural to use this in a sentence where the president is saying, “All of the employees(including myself)…”

 

がんばったではありませんか
“Didn’t we work hard?”

 

がんばらないのではないですか
“Aren’t we not working hard?”
