Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice from my exclusive course. This one’s for Beginners (JLPT N5)! Can you answer correctly?

[Practice Question]

私のへやはきれいです(__)、せまいです。

*わたしのへやはきれいです(__)、せまいです。

1 と
2 が
3 か
4 も

[Answer]

私のへやはきれいです(2 が)、せまいです。

My room is clean, but it’s small.

〜が」 means “but” or “however,” and is used to show contrast.

When you connect opposite ideas, you should use 「」.

わたしのへやはきれいです。=My room is clean.

せまいです。=It’s small.

These two ideas are opposite.

One is positive (clean), and the other is negative (small).

So, you should choose 「」 in this sentence.

Other Choices:

1 と → means “and.”

Used when both ideas are similar or equally true.

Not good for opposite ideas.

3 か→ means “or.”

Used to show choices, not contrast.

4 も→ means “also” or “too.”

Used when both ideas are true and similar.

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
