Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice from my exclusive course.

This one’s for upper beginners (JLPT N4)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

[Answer]

Clothes this small for children cost as much as 10,000 yen.

Number + も

=emphasis: “as many/much as ~”.

It shows the speaker’s surprise that something is more than they expected (e.g., too expensive, too many, too much).

= It costs 10,000 yen.

This is just a simple fact.

= It costs as much as 10,000 yen!

In this sentence, the speaker is surprised: “Wow, 10,000 yen is expensive for children’s clothes this small!”

So,  is the best choice.

Other choices:

These particles do not fit the meaning of this sentence.

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
