[JLPT N2] If you do it, you’ll be in big trouble:
Even though my teacher told me never to be late again, if I were late again today, they would be furious.

[Answer]
Even though my teacher told me never to be late again, if I were late again today, I can’t imagine how angry they’d be.
= “If you ever do ~ , something terrible will happen.”
It warns that if you do something, a very bad result will follow.
Structure:
Verb volitional form +
In this sentence:
The speaker was already warned not to be late.
So, being late again would be a very bad idea!
That’s why 「しようものなら」 is the perfect fit.
✖ Other choices:
= “After doing a lot, it ended up…”
Used for past outcomes, not a hypothetical warning.
= “Far from A; actually B (the opposite).”
= “if (you’re going to) do A, then B is better.”
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
