[Answer]
まりこさんはアメリカに住んでいた(2 だけに)、英語の発音がきれいですね。
Since Mariko-san lived in the U.S., it’s no surprise that her English pronunciation is very good.
〜だけに
= “precisely because ~” or “no wonder ~.”
It adds an “as expected” feeling of agreement or admiration.
In this sentence:
“アメリカに住んでいた” is a special reason.
The result “発音がきれい” is expected
→ だけに shows naturalness and a touch of admiration.
That’s why だけに is the best choice.
Other choices:
だけは:
“at least/only this (limited scope).”
ところは / ところに:
Mark time/place or “at the moment when.” They do not express a reason here.
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
