Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

[Answer]

A: Why aren’t you eating?

B: Because… I don’t like this.

だって

= casual way to give a reason or excuse

It often sounds a bit childish or cute.

In this sentence:

A asks WHY B isn’t eating.

→ B gives a reason in a casual, childlike way.

だって fits perfectly here with 〜んだもん in casual conversation.

= “Because… (casual/defensive tone)”

✖ Other choices:

→  “because.” BUT it’s too formal for this casual conversation.

しかし

→ “however” or “but.”

それから

→ “and then” or “after that.”

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
