Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.
his one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!
Can you choose the correct answer?
[Practice Question]
昨日、まどを(__)寝てしまった。
*きのう、まどを(__)ねてしまった。
1 開けながら
2 開けたりして
3 開けたまま
4 開けているときに

昨日、まどを(3 開けたまま)寝てしまった。
Yesterday, I fell asleep with the window open.
〜たまま
= “with ~ still in that state” / “leaving ~ as it is”
The action is done, but the state continues.
In this sentence:
You opened the window.
→You didn’t close it.
→You fell asleep in that condition.
→Use 〜たまま.
Structure:
Verb [ta-form]+ まま
開けた+まま
So 開けたまま is the correct answer.
✖ Other choices:
1 開けながら
= “while ~” (same time)
Sleeping is not an action, so it doesn’t fit.
2 開けたりして
= “things like ~” (examples)
It sounds like “I did many things,” so it doesn’t fit.
4 開けているときに
= “when ~” (time)
It talks about timing, not “left open.”
