こんにちは、ちか先生です。

Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

コーヒーと紅茶、お好きなのはどちらでした(__)。

*コーヒーとこうちゃ、おすきなのはどちらでした(__)。

1 もの

2 こそ

3 ことか

4 っけ

[Answer]

コーヒーと紅茶、お好きなのはどちらでした(4 っけ)。

Between coffee and tea, which one did you prefer again?

〜っけ

= “…again?” / “…was it?”

You use this when you’re trying to remember something you already knew.

In this sentence:

You asked someone before which drink they prefer.

But you forgot the answer.

→どちらでしたっけ

= Which one was it again?

= I forgot, so I’m asking to confirm.

So, っけ is the best choice.

✖ Other choices:

もの

→ Used for making a noun or giving a reason. “でしたもの” does not fit here.

こそ

→ Used for emphasis (like “precisely” or “definitely”).

ことか

→ Used to emphasize a feeling or exclamation (e.g., “How happy I am!”).

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
