[JLPT grammar] 母にてつだってあげました→Incorrect
Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N4 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
昨日母にてつだってあげました。
*昨日(きのう)
母(はは)

[My correction]
昨日母にてつだってあげました。
→昨日母「を」てつだってあげました。
I helped my mother yesterday.
The sentence particle doesn’t change with or without 〜てあげる.
Don’t think of に as a particle for 〜てあげる
If you remove 〜てあげる in your sentence, it is 母にてつだった, but てつだう always use を to mark a person who receives help.

When you add 〜てあげる, it should be 母をてつだってあげる.
