[JLPT grammar] 来週に日本に行く→Incorrect

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N4 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

友だちが来週に日本に行くそうです。

*友(とも)だち
来週(らいしゅう)
日本(にほん)
行(い)く

 



 

[My correction]

友だちが来週に日本に行くそうです。
→友だちが来週日本に行くそうです。(×来週に)
(I have heard) My friend is going to Japan next week.

How to use に to indicate a specific point in time:

[Number, day of the week]に
1月
24日
日曜日(にちようび)
2022年

This に indicates the time that does not shift as time progresses.

[No number]×
あした(×)、
来週(×)、
きょねん(×)、
来月(×)、

に is not used for the time that changes depending on when “now” is.

e.g.
◎友だちが来週日本に行くそうです。
◎友だちが11月1日に日本に行くそうです。
