[JLPT grammar] Why is 太るようになる incorrect?

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N4 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

ケーキを食べすぎて、太るようになりました。

*けーきをたべすぎて、ふとるようになりました。

[My correction]

ケーキを食べすぎて、太るようになりました。
→ケーキを食べすぎて、太りました
I ate too much cake and gained weight.

〜ようになる describes certain changes,
But originally 太る(gain weight, grow fat) is a verb that includes the meaning of change, there is no need to add ようになる.
Using both 太る and ようになる is redundant.

e.g.
ダイエットをして、10キロやせました
(×ダイエットをして、10キロやせるようになりました。)
I went on a diet and lost 10 kg.
やせる:get thin, lose weight

毎日(まいにち)勉強(べんきょう)して、テストの点数(てんすう)が上がりました
(×毎日勉強して、テストの点数が上がるようになりました。)
I studied every day and my test scores improved.
上がる:rise, improve, go up

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
