Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

妹の車は、小さいと古いです。

*いもうとのくるまは、ちいさいとふるいです。

[My correction]

妹の車は、小さいと古いです。
→妹の車は、小さくて古いです。
My younger sister’s car is small and old.

りんごとバナナを食(た)べました。

However, と cannot be used for anything other than nouns. 小さい is an i-adjective, so と cannot be used with 小さい.

To simply connect words, use the te-form;
小さい dictionary-form
小さくて te-form
小さくて、古いです。

You can use te-form conjunctions for any part of speech.

e.g.
田中(たなか)さんは、かみが長(なが)くて背(せ)が高(たか)いです。
Tanaka-san has long hair and is tall.

私(わたし)のねこは、しずかでかわいいです。
My cat is quiet and cute.

朝(あさ)は、コーヒーを飲(の)んでパンを食べました。
In the morning, I drank coffee and ate bread.

朝は、パンとバナナを食べました。
In the morning, I ate bread and a banana.
