旅行のついでにお土産を買ってきてくれて、ありがとう。
→旅行のたびにお土産を買ってきてくれて、ありがとう。
Thank you for buying me souvenirs on every trip.

 

When you want to say, “Whenever you do…,” use 〜たびに. Saying 〜ついでに implies, “You bought souvenirs while on a trip,” which can be rude. It sounds like, “You didn’t make a special effort to buy the souvenirs; it was just a convenient side task.”

 

Examples:

買い物に行くたびに5000円以上使ってしまう。
Every time I go shopping, I end up spending more than 5,000 yen.
（＝I do that every time.）

 

買い物に行くついでに手紙を出してきて。
Could you send a letter while you’re out shopping?
（＝If you’re going to go anyway…）
