Today, I am going to share a homework correction from my JLPT Course! The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

図書館へ本を返すに行きます。

*としょかんへほんをかえすにいきます。

[My correction]

図書館へ本を返すに行きます。
→図書館へ本を返しに行きます。
I go to the library to return books.

When using the 〜に行く (go to do ~) grammar, we need to change the verb before に to its masu-form stem.

返す (dictionary form)
返し|ます (masu-form)
返し|に行きます

Here are some more examples:

公園(こうえん)へ遊(あそ)びに行きます。
I go to the park to play.

買(か)い物(もの)しに行きます。
I go shopping.

友(とも)だちに会(あ)いに行きます。
I go to meet a friend.

I hope my explanation helps you.😊
