Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.
This one’s for upper beginners (JLPT N4)!
Can you choose the correct answer?
[Practice Question]
私は、夜はコーヒーやお茶を飲まないこと（＿＿）。
*わたしは、よるはコーヒーやおちゃをのまないこと（＿＿）。
1 になります
2 はしていません
3 になっています
4 にしています

私は、夜はコーヒーやお茶を飲まないこと（4 にしています）。
I have decided not to drink coffee or tea at night.
〜ことにしています
= “I have decided to ~” / “I make it a rule to ~”
It expresses a rule or habit that you decided by yourself.
In this sentence:
・You decided: “コーヒーやお茶を飲まない”
・It is your own rule.
・You are continuing this habit now.
→コーヒーやお茶を飲まないことにしています。
So, にしています is the best choice.
✖ Other Choices:
1 になります / 3 になっています
→ 〜ことになる is used for rules decided by others (e.g. company, school).
2 はしていません
→ This simply means “I don’t do ~.” But this does not work with “こと”.
