[JLPT N2]Even though surprised: 驚き＋[ものの・ながらも・べきも・にわたり]？

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.
This one’s for pre-advanced learners (JLPT N2)!
Can you choose the correct answer?
[Practice Question]
彼女は彼の突然のプロポーズに驚き（＿＿）、うれしそうだった。
*かのじょは かれの とつぜんの プロポーズに おどろき（＿＿）、うれしそうだった。

3 べきも

[Answer]
彼女は彼の突然のプロポーズに驚き（2 ながらも）、うれしそうだった。
Even though she was surprised by his sudden proposal, she looked happy.
〜ながらも
= “even though ~” / “although ~”
It shows two feelings or states at the same time.
Structure:
Verb masu-stem ＋ ながらも
驚きます
→ 驚き ＋ ながらも
→ 驚きながらも
In this sentence:
She feels surprised（驚きます）.
But at the same time, she feels happy（うれしそうだった）.
→ Two emotions（驚く、うれしい） together
= ながらも
So, ながらも is the best choice.
✖ Other Choices:
ものの
= “although” too, but it does NOT attach to the masu-stem.
You would say: 驚いたものの (ta-form + ものの)
べきも
〜べき = “should / must” (duty).
にわたり
= “over ~ (a period/range)”
