Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

[Answer]

My washing machine broke, so I have no choice but to wash by hand.

= “have no choice but to ~” / “can only ~”

It means there is no other option.

In this sentence:

(My washing machine broke)

→ I can’t use the machine

→ 手で洗う (wash by hand) is the only option

So, しかない is the correct choice.

✖ Other choices:

ことか

→ Used to show strong feelings (often with どんなに〜ことか).

ものか

→ Strong refusal: “No way!” / “I will never do it.”

→ “No need to do it.” / “You don’t have to.”

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
