こんにちは、ちか先生です。

Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for upper beginners (JLPT N4)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

A:あの、この水は(__)か。

B:いえ。それ、川の水です。飲まないでください。

*A:あの、このみずは(__)か。

*B:いえ。それ、かわのみずです。のまないでください。

1 飲みできます

2 飲んでします

3 飲めます

4 飲みます

[Answer]

A:あの、この水は(3 飲めます)か。

B:いえ。それ、川の水です。飲まないでください。

A: Excuse me, can I drink this water?

B: No. That’s river water. Please don’t drink it.

A-san is asking:

“Can I drink this water?” (Is it possible?)

To express “can do,” we use the potential-form.

飲む dictionary-form (verb group1)

Potential-form of group1 verbs:

-u>>-eru

飲む>> 飲める

→Polite: 飲めます

So, 飲めます is the correct choice.

✖︎Other Choices:

1 飲みできます

This form is incorrect.

Use: 飲むことができます or 飲めます.

2 飲んでします

This is not a correct grammar form.

4 飲みます

This is the simple present (I drink / I will drink).

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
