Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for pre-advanced learners (JLPT N2)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

[Answer]

I tripped on a stone and fell.

石に (on a stone) + [action] + 転んだ (fell down)

= to trip / to stumble

Your foot hits something, and you lose your balance.

つまずいて is the te-form of つまずく.

So, 石につまずいて (tripped on a stone) is the perfect fit for why you fell!

✖ Other choices:

= touch

Touching a stone doesn’t cause you to fall.

= pull

You can’t pull a stone with your foot while walking.

= bump into / collide

We usually use it for hitting a person, a wall, a car, etc.

For a stone on the ground, つまずく is much more natural.

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
