This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!
Can you choose the correct answer?

家族が日本に来ますから、空港に（＿＿）行きます。
*かぞくがにほんにきますから、くうこうに（＿＿）いきます。

家族が日本に来ますから、空港に（1 むかえに）行きます。
My family is coming to Japan, so I’m going to the airport to pick them up.
むかえに行く
= to go pick someone up
家族が「来ます」
= they are coming toward me.
So I go to the airport to meet them and pick them up.
That’s why むかえに is correct.

2 おくりに
おくる / おくりに行く
= to see someone off (a person who leaves)
3 つれて
つれて行く
= to take someone with you
4 もって
もって行く
= to bring / take something
