Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Answer]

When you go to that restaurant, you must wear a necktie.

= “must do ~” / “have to do ~”

This expresses obligation (something you are required to do).

In this sentence:

That restaurant has a dress code (a rule).

So you must wear a necktie.

= Necktie is required.

So, しなければならない is the best choice.

✖︎Other Choices:

= must not / don’t do it (prohibition)

→ It becomes “You must NOT wear a tie.”

= it’s okay to do / you may do it (permission)

→ This means it is optional, not a requirement.

It feels like “It’s better if you don’t…” or “Just don’t do it.”

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
