[JLPT grammar]Using the Particle で to Specify Means
Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
会社まで電車に行きます。
*かいしゃまででんしゃにいきます。

[My correction]
会社まで電車に行きます。
→会社まで電車で行きます。
I take the train to the office.
(Lit: I go to the office by train.)
で is used to specify the means by which something is done.
[means]で電車で
In your sentence, 電車で means “by train,” and the particle で indicates that this is the means you selected to commute.
e.g.
タクシーで駅(えき)に行(い)きましょう。
Let’s take a taxi to the station.
新幹線(しんかんせん)で大阪(おおさか)に出張(
I will go on a business trip to Osaka by Shinkansen.
駐車場(ちゅうしゃじょう)がないので、車(くるま)で来(こ)
Please do not come by car as there is no parking.
I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
In the JLPT course, all lessons come with homework. If you submit your homework, I will reply with corrections.
I can break down the Japanese grammar and point out mistakes, explaining the structure and nuances of Japanese in an easy-to-understand way.
You can also ask me any questions in as much detail as you want. I will teach you until you get it!
