できれば〜
If possible

Using “できれば” (if possible) helps you communicate wishes or requests in a softer, gentler way.

 

Let’s practice:

1.
A: 私(わたし)も参加(さんか)したほうがいいですか。
B: ええ、できれば。
A: Should I participate?/Should I join too?
B: Yes, if possible.

 

2.
A: できれば、明日(あした)7時(じ)までに会社(かいしゃ)に来て(き)ほしいんだけど。
B: はい、わかりました。
A: If possible, I’d like you to be at the office by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.
B: Okay, I understand.

 

3.
車(くるま)で来たんですか。じゃあ、できれば、駅(えき)まで乗(の)せていってほしいんですが。
Did you come by car? If so, could you give me a ride to the station, if possible?
