Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.
This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!
Can you choose the correct answer?

明日は家に(＿＿)ことはいますが、家で仕事をしないといけないんです。
*あしたは いえに(＿＿)ことは いますが、いえで しごとを しないと いけないんです。

明日は家に(3 いる)ことはいますが、家で仕事をしないといけないんです。
I will be at home tomorrow, but I have to work from home.
「〜ことは〜が、…」
= “It’s true that ~, but…”
This pattern is used when you admit something is true, but then add important additional information.
Structure:
[Verb dictionary-form] ことは [same verb] が、…
Both parts must use the same verb.
いる (dictionary form)
→ いることはいますが
You admit:
“Yes, I will be home” (家にいる)
But you add:
“I have to work” (= so I’m not free)
So いる is the best choice.
Other Choices:
✖ 1. いない
→ nai-form
✖ 2. いて
→ te-form.
✖ 4. いた
→ ta-form
