こんにちは、ちか先生です。
Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.
Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.
This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!
Can you choose the correct answer?
[Practice Question]

[Answer]
この商品は品質が(1 いいの)はもちろん値段も手ごろだ。
This product has not only good quality but also a reasonable price.
AはもちろんBも
= “not only A, but also B”
This pattern emphasizes that A is obviously good, and B is good too.
In this sentence:
A = 品質がいい (quality is good)
B = 値段も手ごろ (price is also reasonable)
Why do we need の?
We cannot connect 「いい (i-adjective)」directly with 「は (particle)」.
We must add 「の」 to change the adjective phrase into a noun phrase.
いい+の+は
→ 品質がいいのはもちろん
So, いいの is the best choice.
✖ Other choices:
いい
→ Cannot connect directly with 「は」. We need 「の」.
よく
→This is an adverb form. It doesn’t fit here.
よさ
→This is the noun form, but 「〜のよさ」is the correct structure. It doesn’t connect with 「品質が(+よさ)」.
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
