[JLPT N5] I turned 15:15さい [が・を・に・で] なりました?

[Practice Question]

わたしは きのう 15さい(__)なりました。

1 が

2 を

3 に

4 で

[Answer]

わたしは きのう 15さい(3 に)なりました。

I turned 15 yesterday.

The key word here is なりました (became).

When something changes or becomes something, we use  before なる.

The pattern is:

(noun) なる

= to become (noun)

e.g.

15さい なりました

= I turned 15.

いしゃ なりました

= I became a doctor.

せんせい なりました

= I became a teacher.

So,  is the best choice.

✖︎ Other Choices:

1 が

→ This is mainly a subject marker.

We don’t say “noun が なる.”

2 を

→ This is mainly an object marker.

We don’t say “noun を なる.”

4 で

→ This mainly shows a place or a method.

We don’t say “noun で なる.”

Remember:

Noun + に なる

= become 〜
