[JLPT grammar] Which should I use, ひとつ or いっこ?

Today I am going to share the Q&A quoted from my JLPT N5 course!

[Question]

I saw the sentence けしごむがひとつ.
Can I tell けしごむが いっこ?
It’s a small object or am I mistaken?
Or i can use only つ?

[My Reply]

Yes, you can use つ, too.

けしごむがひとつ
けしごむがいっこ

Both are correct.

~つ is more versatile than ~こ.
Sometimes ~つ is used for something other than objects.
e.g., incidents, methods, reasons, lessons, chapters, departments, etc.

So it doesn’t matter which one you use, since erasers are solid.

I hope my answer helps you. 😊

In the JLPT course, you can ask me any questions as much as you want.
I will teach you until you get it!
