I can’t figure out when to use から instead of に when the verb is もらいます.

Basically, there is no big difference between the two particles から/に in もらいます sentence.
To be exact, に is used only with people, and から is used with organizations.
I got the book from the school.
For people, we can use both.
I got the book from my teacher.
Use から with がっこう(school)、かいしゃ(company)、
