[JLPT grammar] Using Time Durations as Adverbs in Japanese Sentences without に

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

一週間に東京に泊まります。

*いっしゅうかんにとうきょうにとまります

[My correction]

一週間に東京に泊まります。
一週間、東京に泊まります。
I will stay in Tokyo for a week.

If the indicated time simply modifies a verb or adjective as an adverb, you don’t need に.
Here, 一週間 (one week) plays an adverbial role describing the verb 泊まる(stay).

stay –> how long –> one week

e.g.
一年中(いちねんじゅう)、ハワイはあたかかいです。
(×一年中にハワイはあたたかいです。)
Hawaii is warm all year round.

図書館(としょかん)で三時間(さんじかん)勉強(べんきょう)しました。
(×図書館で三時間に勉強しました。)
I studied for three hours in the library.

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
