Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.
Today, I’m sharing a homework correction from my JLPT Course. This one’s for intermediate learners! Can you spot the mistake in the student’s sentence?
[Student’s sentence]

[My correction]
Recently, my grandfather has been forgetful, and he can’t even remember what he had for breakfast.
〜っぱなし is used when something is left in a state that should have been returned to normal. For example, leaving something undone or in an incomplete state.
The fridge door was left open (and it should have been closed).
〜っぽい is used to describe someone or something that tends to do something often or easily.
Forgetful, prone to forgetting things.
In this case, your grandfather tends to forget things, so 〜っぽい is more appropriate than 〜っぱなし.
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
