[Answer]
(1 まさか)こんなところで、別れた彼氏に会うとは思わなかった。
I never expected to run into my ex-boyfriend in a place like this.
まさか
=“No way!” / “I can’t believe it!”
Used when something completely unexpected happens.
こんなところ
= “A place like this?!” (with surprise)
In this sentence, the speaker met her ex-boyfriend in a place she never expected, like running into him at a small cafe in New York after breaking up in Tokyo.
That’s why まさか is the best choice.
まさか〜とは思わなかった is a common phrase pattern.
Other Choices:
まさに
=“Exactly” / “Just”
まるで
=“As if”
まもなく
=“Soon” / “Shortly”
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
