[Answer]
一人でケーキを五つ(1 も)食べてしまった。
I ended up eating as many as five pieces of cake by myself.
The key point is:
Number/Quantity + も
= “as many as ~” / “a whole ~”
We use 「も」 after a number to show surprise or emphasis.
The speaker thinks the amount is more than expected.
In this sentence:
五つも
= as many as five (Wow, that’s a lot!)
Normally, one or two pieces would be enough.
But five? That’s surprising!
So, も is the best choice.
✖ Other Choices:
2. で
3. が
4. に
These particles cannot express surprise.
So they don’t fit in this sentence.
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
