[JLPT grammar] Only nouns and na-adjectives can add だ before から
Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
漢字は難しいだから、勉強したくないです。
*かんじはむずかしいだから、べんきょうしたくないです。

[My correction]
漢字は難しいだから、勉強したくないです。
→漢字は難しいから、勉強したくないです。
I don’t want to study kanji because it is difficult.
When から indicates reason or cause, only nouns and na-adjectives can add だ before から.
難しい is an i-adjective, so nothing is added before から.
i-adj+から
難しいから、勉強しません。
I don’t study it because it’s difficult.
na-adjだ+から
便利(べんり)だから、それを買(か)います。
I buy that because it is convenient.
nounだ+から
かれは先生(せんせい)だから、何(なん)でも知(し)
He is a teacher, so he knows everything.
I hope my explanation helps you. 😊
In the JLPT course, all lessons come with homework, if you submit your homework, I will reply with corrections.
I can break down the Japanese grammar and point out mistakes, explaining the structure and nuances of Japanese in an easy-to-understand way.
You can also ask me any questions as much as you want. I will teach you until you get it!
