[JLPT grammar] A verb and a particle cannot be connected.

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

[Student’s sentence]

友達が来るを待っています。

*ともだちがくるをまっています。

[My correction]

友達が来るを待っています。
→友達が来るを待っています。
I’m waiting for my friends to come.

A verb and a particle cannot be connected.
A noun must always come before a particle, so if it is not a noun, add の, which acts as a nominalizer.

×来るを
◎来る

e.g.
映画(えいが)を見(み)るが好(す)きです。
I like to watch movies.

友達がバスに乗(の)っているを見ました。
I saw my friend riding the bus.

部屋(へや)をそうじするは私です。
I clean the room. (Lit; I am the one who cleans the room.)

I hope my explanation helps you. 😊

In the JLPT course, all lessons come with homework, if you submit your homework, I will reply with corrections.
