[Common Mistakes] “においをする” – Why is this incorrect grammar?

Today, I am going to share a homework correction from my Japanese Course!
The student’s sentence is not quite correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student’s sentence]
この花はいいにおいをします。
*このはなはいいにおいをします。

[My correction]
この花はいいにおいをします。
→この花はいいにおいがします。
This flower smells good.
[noun]+がする describes a feeling you get from your nose, ears, or tongue. It’s used when you notice something like a smell or sound.
におい means “smell”, so you can say においがする.
Examples:
変(へん)な音(おと)がする。
There’s a strange sound.
あまい味(あじ)がする。
It tastes sweet.
