[Answer]
説明書(2 によれば)、この薬を飲むと眠くなるらしい。
According to the instructions, this medicine may make you sleepy.
〜によれば
→“According to 〜” or “Based on the information from 〜.”
This sentence is giving us information that the speaker read in the instructions (説明書).
The instructions said: “This medicine may make you sleepy.”
The speaker is now telling someone else what was written there.
So, here:
説明書によれば = I read it in the manual.
That’s why によれば is the best choice.
Other options:
〜によって
→ Means “due to” or “by (means of).”
× The manual is not the reason you get sleepy, so it’s incorrect.
〜による
→ Needs to be followed by a noun.
(〜による+noun)
× Here, there’s a comma, not a noun, so it doesn’t work.
〜について
→ Means “about” or “concerning.”
× We’re not talking about the manual itself.
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
