This one’s for upper beginners (JLPT N4)!
Can you choose the correct answer?
[Practice Question]
田中さんには、今日のことは（＿＿）ほうがいいと思います。
*たなかさんには、きょうのことは（＿＿）ほうがいいとおもいます。

2 言(い)わない
3 言(い)えないの

田中さんには、今日のことは（2 言わない）ほうがいいと思います。
I think it’s better not to tell Tanaka-san about what happened today.
〜ないほうがいい
= “It’s better not to ~”
This is used to give advice about what someone should NOT do.
Structure:
Verb [nai-form]＋ほうがいい
So here:
言う（dictionary-form）
→ 言わない（nai-form）
→ 言わない ＋ ほうがいい
“Better not to say it.”
So, 言わない is the correct choice.
✖ Other Choices:
1. 言えない
= “I can’t say it” / “I’m not able to say it.”
This is about ability or a situation.
It does NOT mean advice.
3, 4. 言えないの / 言わないの
These have an extra の.
In this grammar, use: Verb (nai-form) + ほうがいい.
