Today, I am going to share a homework correction from my Japanese Course!
The student’s sentence is not quite correct. Can you find the mistake?

 

[Student’s sentence]

 

桜がきれいで、散歩しませんか。

*さくらがきれいで、さんぽしませんか。

[My correction]

 

桜がきれいで、散歩しませんか。
→桜がきれいだから、散歩しませんか。
Since the cherry blossoms are beautiful, why don’t we go for a walk?

 

When you use “AてB,” B should be a fact or a natural result that happens because of A. It can’t be something you want to do in the future, like suggesting an activity.

In this case, you are making a suggestion to go for a walk because the cherry blossoms are beautiful. To express this, “から” (because, since) is more appropriate.

 

Here are some more examples:

桜がきれいで、写真(しゃしん)を撮(と)る人(ひと)でいっぱいだった。
The cherry blossoms were beautiful and full of people taking photos. (result)

 

もう暗(くら)いから、帰(かえ)りましょう。
It’s dark, let’s go home.

 

暗くて、よく見(み)えません。
It’s too dark to see well. (result)
